like that all houses can only be painted white or beige, but I feel sorry for people who live where there is no protection at all. I cannot imagine what it would be like to have a well drilled right beside my house.

It is mainly homeowner association rules that regular colors and details. Zoning is primarily concerned about keeping things like natural gas compressor stations out of residential areas.
