http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/regional/s_779437.htmlA new update on this issue. Several republican Senators are pushing back against prohibiting local regulations. This issue not only involves wells, but also ponds for hazardous liquids, water treatment facilities, noise, etc.
The original draft of the law by the Corbettites was written so incredibly broadly that it would have even prohibited municipalities from requiring that gas drilling companies repair the damage to local roads from their 50 ton rigs.

There also are separate issues about whether gas companies will be able to use eminent domain to build new pipelines across homes and farms.

(12,321 posts)Local municipalities already have very limited say over what the gas drillers can and cannot do. If they do try to pass any types of laws or ordinances, the Big Oil and Gas companies sue them.
Tom Corrupt wants to limit local regulations even more. Priceless. Oh well, at least he is a consistent idiot.

(1,249 posts)to weigh in with our representatives on this. Received a message from PennEnvironment.org today that says HB1950 might be voted on as soon as Monday evening:
"From: David Masur, PennEnvironment Director" <action@pennenvironment.org>
Subject: Vote Monday: Stop Marcellus Dark Age
Date: February 3, 2012 12:13:19 PM EST
For the last two months we've fought to stop House Bill 1950, a dangerous dramatic rollback to our environmental laws that would benefit Marcellus Shale gas drillers, not Pennsylvanians. But, now it seems like it may be on the move again with a vote happening this Monday evening."
I've messaged my reps so much on this, I'm like the penpal from hell!
Monday should be interesting. (Heartbreaking?)
