Republican Legislators Trying to Divert State Store Sale Proceeds Away from Schools

As part of Corbett's re-election efforts, he realized his cuts to public schools were one of the reasons why his approval ratings were in the toilet. He doesn't care about public schools, but he does care about being re-elected. Therefore, he proposed to commit all of the proceeds from selling the licenses to sell alcohol to provide additional funds to public schools over a 4 year period.

After a 2 year delay, Corbett also proposed to increase the wholesale fuel tax to provide needed funding for bridge, road and mass transit funding. That funding is necessary because the feds have not increased transportation funding, bridges are falling down, and mass transit systems are having severe funding problems.

Now a group of Republican legislators is seeking to divert the money that has been promised to public schools to use for road improvements. They are led by chief teabagger and conspiracy theorist extraordinaire Darryl Metcalfe.

Metcalfe yesterday said "When you give the money to the education establishment like this, it's like throwing it into a black hole." Did he mean a Black and Latino hole?
