So, what do you western Pennsylvanians think of the mayor/police scandal?

I haven't been following it as closely as I ought, and some of the comments made me think twice. Even if only to go "WTF?"

From the point of view of the upcoming mayoral primary, I suppose it's good news for both Lamb and Peduto. Either would be an improvement; just IMO Lamb would be more of a progressive bulldog. Or could Ravenstahl's people spin it as persecution by a political opponent? Guess we'll have to wait and see what the FBI finds out an'at.

Ravenstahl, I think is history. I no longer live in the city of Pittsburgh, but if I drive 1 mile I am in the city. I lived in the city for 43 years. I've no the Mayor since he was about 13. I also know the former Chief of Police and have worked with him. I'm hoping for the best for the ex-Chief. Only time will tell

The mayor's bodyguards were using the credit cards that have been linked to the bank account(s) at the credit union that are being investigated. He has also stated that he knew his bodyguards had these cards, but didn't know where the money was coming from to pay for the charges.

The mayor has made some bad decisions during his term(s). Being out of town, celebrating his birthday during the bad snowstorms of 2011, some bad advisors, some bad hiring decisions. Living on the south side for awhile, which is a neighborhood that he now has to send police into on the weekends because of fights, shootings, underage drinking, etc. While he lived on the south side he was seen in the bars partying on the weekends.

You know he's in trouble, when he brings his son (3 years old) to news conferences and other public appearances. We haven't seen his son during the past 3 years. His son lives with Luke's ex-wife

Chief Harper was ousted because of questionable expense payments which the department made to a private security firm started by him and others in the police department. Three members of the department have been suspended pending the investigation. Acting Police Chief Regina McDonald hints that further disciplinary actions may be taken.

Meanwhile, the mayor has been put on the hot seat because his bodyguards accessed an unauthorized account for paying expenses, but those expenses were legitimate. The the FBI has copies of the records from the financial institution where the account is held, but the FBI is not is not sharing those copies. The mayor's opponents want to see those copies.

These are the types of controversies that the news media enjoy, since there are always new chapters to write.
