Thought this needed a bit of exposure in the PA group..

This Saturday, May 5th, Senator Bernie Sanders is coming to Lancaster, PA, to rally with Jess King.
Musser Park
135 N Lime St
Lancaster, PA 17602
Rally begins at 10:30.
Senator Sanders is traveling to South Central PA because whats happening here isnt just about whether a Democrat or a Republican wins another seat in Congress. Across this country, Americans are coming together to say that our democracy belongs to all of us, not just a few corporate donors and lobbyists. We are building a movement to rewrite the rules of an economy that has been rigged to favor the wealthy and well-connected. Bringing our vision and our voice to Washington D.C. is hard. Its going to take all of us - together. We need to inspire thousands of Pennsylvanians to get involved in politics and join our movement.
Thats why Im standing alongside Senator Sanders this weekend. I hope you will join us and invite your friends and family.
Rally features Senator Bernie Sanders, candidate Jess King, community leaders, and campaign volunteers. Local Band, Vinegar Creek Constituency, begins at 10AM.

Me.
(35,454 posts)What kind of statement is that and is Jess King an actual Democrat or simple running as one?

(35,454 posts)It doesn't actually say what her affiliation is, only that she's running for a Dem spot. (unless I missed it) Is she an actual Dem, for how long? And just to say, there have been cases lately of people trying to run as Dems or Greens who have turned out to be Cons. Further, Our REvolution Pres. Nina Turner says she'd vote for a Con if they walked her talk.

As far as Nina Turner smears - I'm with her

(35,454 posts)Those are Nina's words, so please don't make untrue accusations
B. Given post #7...it seems to me this is an OR candidate and they're just not saying so
disillusioned73
(2,872 posts)She is the Dem candidate in PA11. The only other candidate is a Republican, are you here to promote the Republican candidate??
Me.
(35,454 posts)It does matter if the candidate is a DEM or Con. And I'm asking if the person running is actually a DeM. Is that clarification a problem?
And, as the announcement says we are building a movement I am wondering if this is an OR situation rather than anything else. As you know people who aren't actually DEms have used the DEM banner to run before.

(2,872 posts)you obviously know she's a Dem but continue this obvious play of bewilderment.. maybe you were a Hartman supporter.. my condolences to another failed campaign.. Good day

(35,454 posts)as you know because they don't support DEms, just use stealth to snag a position in the Dem party

(32,640 posts)be consistent with the party platform, or contribute in any way to the success, infrastructure or reliable leadership of the party.
When a politician refuses to join a party, but wants to make party decisions, that is a clear message about what purpose the party serves for them.
Same goes for organizations....

It may behoove Ms. Turner to take a few moments on this July 4th to reread our constitution and realize to make progress on her goals may require some compromise. That is how the founding fathers set up our government. It doesnt mean compromising your principles, it does mean working steadily toward your goals. Winston Churchill is credited with saying Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.
Meyerson went on to ask And how will Our Revolution relate to progressives within government who didnt back Bernie, like Sherrod Brown and Tammy Baldwin, if they go on to seek reelection? Her response is an indication of what is clearly self-destructive about both Nina Turner and Our Revolution. She said about those two successful and respected progressives

There were a number of other surprising statements from Turner in the same Meyerson interview. They include who Our Revolution would consider endorsing. She said And for me, Ive also heard the senator (referring to Sanders) say this lately too: Lets put the political affiliation to the side. If there is a Republican or a Libertarian or Green Party person that believes in Medicare for all, then thats our kind of person. If theres somebody that believes that Citizens United needs to be overturned, that we need the 28th amendment to the Constitution that declares that money, corporate money, is not speech and that corporations should not have more speech than Mrs. Johnson down the street and Mr. Gonzalez around the corner, then thats our kind of people.

So said. The Revolution supports GOP and Greens. Her words, not mine.

(32,640 posts)Let alone the respect for their strategies, which aren't really producing much more than salaries for their senior staff.
And it appears they think that this somehow gives them credibility, and makes them more "ethical' and 'above' the political partisanship that they have decided to jump into headfirst and don't seem to navigate well.
Sounds familiar.

(67,782 posts)CM: How will Our Revolution relate to the DNC, the DCCC, the DSCC, that kind of establishment that so many activists and politicians, including you, have frequently criticized?
NT: I dont think it is our job nor our obligation to fit in. Its their job to fit in with us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CM: And what about the Democratic Party at large. Do you see Our Revolution working to bring some unity to factions in the party?
NT: No. Not really.....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CM: Will the group be endorsing non-Democrats?
NT: You know what, yes. We are open to it. And for me, Ive also heard the senator say this lately too
