I am a58 yr old morbidly obese straight white male.I started a business making split bamboo fly rods(www.stonerodco.com) after loosing my construction job due to the fucking greedy bankers. Although I lost my home when I lost my job. I am proud to say I never once took food stamps or asked for social security due to my weight 550lbs.250lbs since 2008 . Business is great, but mentally I am ready to check out.

Lately I'm traveling more than I'm working, and only recently have I begun to emerge from a self-imposed, post-election media blackout.

Then again, I'm not retired... I've just been on a 12 year hiatus.

I lived in other places for school and service in the Navy but Medford was always home and always would be. After the unexpected loss of my wife of forty-one years, life began again with an old friend living in La Conner, Washington. Last year I retired, remarried and moved to an incredible community on the Swinomish Reservation with its own marina. I'll always be an Oregonian but I find myself in a biking, birding and boating paradise. It's the land of bald eagles, trumpeter swans, snow geese, great blue herons and vast fields of tulips and daffodils. Washington is very blue and joining the resistance here makes it feel like home.

Navy Veteran, retired bean-counter. The first time I ever voted was in 1968, and that was for Richard Nixon. Never made that mistake again. Supported some moderate Republicans years ago on the state level - Hatfield, McCall, Atiyeh. Those days are long gone.

those were the days.

I am not a native Oregonian. Moved here from California in 1978 as a teenager. Survived the Oregon hatred of outsiders. Moved around the country and ended up back here in 2009. Whodathunkit?

Nice to meet ya!

Teacher, grandmother, bleeding heart liberal commie socialist, at least according to pragmatic centrists, I live and teach rurally on the drier side of the mountains, surrounded by homogeneous white christian under-educated citizenry, with those of us who don't fit that norm tossed in to salt and spice the mix.

Funniest thing I've read all day! Eastern Oregon is lovely, but generally suffers from that awful malady common among the more rural folk: Republican nuttery.

Having lived in rural areas in different states, I always remember that there are good progressives everywhere. I was nearly run off the road in Texas during the Bush crime family era because of my liberal bumper stickers! I still look at it as a badge of honor.

Nice to meet you.

I'm not too far east, but Central Oregon has plenty of Republican nuttery, and even a few other DUers.
