Ohio Third Party Ballot Access Concerns ACLU

COLUMBUS – The American Civil Liberties Union is raising concerns along with third parties in Ohio about a fast-moving bill that sets new hurdles to ballot access in the battleground state.

The legal organization testified on the bill Tuesday. Representatives of the Green and Libertarian parties have opposed the proposal, which is being heard at the Statehouse.

The Republican-controlled Ohio Senate could vote as soon as Tuesday on the measure, sending it to the House.

The bill introduced in September by Green Township Republican Bill Seitz comes as Ohio Republicans face growing competition from tea party supporters. They say they may support a third-party challenger to Gov. John Kasich in next year’s governor’s race....
