Conservative Group Identifies Cuts State Could Make To Save Billions

A conservative think tank has put out a list of ways it thinks Gov. Mike DeWine is wasting $2.5 billion in his proposed budget. They're listed in the latest edition of what’s called the Piglet Book.

The Buckeye Institute says there’s no reason for the state to set aside $224 million on high-tech Third Frontier program grants, or to spend $20 million on tourism and $3 million to promote Ohio’s wine industry.

The group’s Greg Lawson said the state should do only essential government functions, treat all businesses fairly and lower overall spending.

“We need to have smart, rational tax policy and we need to keep our budget on a true diet," Lawson said.

Excellent job of 'scaling' the various porcine meat cuts there ... mr_lebowski Apr 2019 #1
It's a conservative think tank, so why do you think they know about scaling (it's math after all)? TexasTowelie Apr 2019 #2

The $2,000,000 'cut' being roughly the same size as the $2,200,000,000 cut makes total sense.

I mean, it's only 11,000 TIMES more money, so it should be a similar size in our diagram

That's leaving aside how nebulous the concept of 'extraneous government spending' is ... at it's heart.

One person's 'extraneous spending' is someone else's 'baby's life-saving heart-transplant', for example.

However, they were ecstatic that they could squueze in the text on each cut of meat and have the pig's feet leftover for their Southern-styled recipe.
