Local artist Ivey Hayes dies at 64
and no funeral arrangements have been made. A North Carolina treasure, he will be missed.
North Carolina artist Ivey Hayes has died.
According to his brother, Phillip Hayes, the painter passed away Sept. 28 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center due to a variety of health complications, including pnuemonia. He was 64.
“He just got too weak. His body couldn’t take it anymore,” Phillip Hayes said.
Here’s a profile I wrote on Ivey Hayes in 2009. His paintings were known for their vibrant colors and unique perspectives. They often depicted musical and rural scenes, and were a favorite of art buyers. Prints of Hayes’ work can be found in many Southeastern N.C. homes. View a photo gallery of Hayes’ work.
