(52,162 posts)I am leaning toward ethridge but still am not sure. Can't vote until I make up my mind.

(11,441 posts)I haven't been this worked up since Hill v. Losurda. Wake County gave Teabaggers the boot that day, and I'm hoping the entire state does the same for this abomination of an amendment. Judging by the yard signs I'm seeing in North (yes, North) Raleigh against it, I'm cautiously optimistic.

(4,444 posts)Also, the pro-ammendment group just released a new commercial that will start airing tomorrow (actually today now) saying the anti-ammendment commercial is spreading lies and that a law professor (at some out of state school) has said that heterosexual couples who live together will not lose health insurance benefits because of the ammendment.
I'm not all that optimistic, but I really hope there are more intelligent people than I think.
Oh, and I vote on voting day. I like it better.

(11,441 posts)think it was on CW22. Some woman with a sickeningly sweet Southern accent narrated, and the Bible was prominently featured. I truly hope voters reject that nonsense, but hope springs eternal...
Tomorrow's LsTTE in the N&O should be interesting. I find comfort in the sane ones, but I'm sure the wingnuts will be pulling out all the stops in the final 10 days before the vote.

(5,158 posts)On our way home, though, I saw several signs saying to vote yes on the marriage amendment.. discouraging, but I live in one of the reddest of red counties.

(38,187 posts)It's none of their business.
Mine never look (Richmond County). Once I vote, they don't even touch it. It goes into the machine. They let the voter do that.

(1,014 posts)"sneak a peek." This was an early voting site, and the woman working this particular site already had an attitude with me when I got there because I tried to go in the wrong (wide open, unblocked) door. She made a comment to her little friend when I went around the corner "well, we'll just make sure THAT doesn't happen again." OMG, YES, HOW HORRIBLE, SOMEONE ALMOST WENT IN THE WRONG DOOR!!! CALL 911!!! Geez.
When I went to put my ballot in the machine, she took it out of my hand and put it in, taking a quick glance (not obvious, she glanced as she slid it in the machine, thinking I wasn't watching her look) at my vote as she did it.
It just irritated me. On the one hand, I'm childishly happy because I know my vote irritated her because she was obviously unhappy with it. On the other hand, you're right, she shouldn't be touching or looking at my vote.
I feel like she (an older white lady in her 60's-70's) saw me (a white female who appears to be in my early to mid 20's but I'm actually pushing 40) and thought I was a young, first time or new voter and that she could push me around. I don't know. I get that all the time, though, people look at me and think I'm younger and that they can push me around until I open my mouth and show them that this isn't my first rodeo. /rant

(916 posts)Voted in Hillsborough, Saturday 5/5. It was busy! Dem's table outside was hoppin'. Republican table--no takers. Awwww.

(775 posts)I got stopped by a local Republican candidate too. He told me I should vote in favor of it. I told him I wasn't going to. I argued with him for a few minutes and then went on.

(28,795 posts)in Raleigh and i was the 15th to vote. a lot of traffic, it looked good. i figure the best chance for the amendment to lose is to get more people out there voting.
i sneaked a look at a ballot near me. it was also marked "against"

(1,013 posts)The place was busy. I think I waited longer than I have in a long time. I usually vote after lunch so I don't know if that's normal or not for it to be so busy. Being in a blue county, it makes me hopeful.

(38,187 posts)It means a lot. It is good to know that there are quite a few people in NC who do not believe in discrimination.
I hope one of the organizations can take it to court as discrimination now that it looks like it has passed.
I was hoping beyond hope it would not pass.

(5,849 posts)I arrived just before 7:00. Our precinct was still incredibly busy. I'm really bummed about Amendment 1 passing. I, too, hope that it is challenged in court.
Whose rights will they chip away at next?
