Democratic House primary short-circuited as Board of Elections boots Recchia rival Salgado from ballot

Tom Wrobleski

MANHATTAN - City Board of Elections (BOE) commissioners on Thursday tossed the Rev. Erick Salgado from the congressional ballot, ruling that the Democrat didn't have enough nominating petition signatures to get into a primary against party House candidate Domenic M. Recchia Jr.

If Rev. Salgado doesn't challenge the ruling in court, the decision would clear the way for Recchia to focus on the fall campaign against Rep. Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn).

A Grimm challenge of Recchia's Working Families Party signatures was denied by the board, as was a challenge launched by Recchia of Grimm's signatures to get on the Independence Party ballot. That means that the candidates will appear on those respective lines in November.
