Central Hudson can balance burden of electricity rates, NY state Public Service Commission says
William J. Kemble
The state Public Service Commission on Thursday approved a revision to how Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. calculates its electricity delivery charges in an effort to spread pending price increases among all of the utilitys customers.
The changes were granted without comment during a Thursday morning meeting of the commission.
Central Hudson spokesman John Maserjian said the changes will protect large buyers of market price electricity from being unfairly charged additional fees. He said the change will help those customers avoid increases of 0.5 percent on top of expected increases of 6 percent for residential customers and 10 percent for business customers. Those increases are tied to the May 1 implementation of a federal capacity zone for the region.
