RICHMONDVILLE Schoharie County walked away from the table a winner Thursday when four bids with potential local implications were submitted to the state for the siting of a casino resort.
Howes Caves near Richmondville was among the quartet received by the state. The others: The Thruway Exit 23 proposal near Albany, about 30 miles from Catskill; near Exit 9 on I-90 in East Greenbush; and a proposal for the town of Florida, near Amsterdam.
The four were among 22 $1 million applications received by the New York Gaming Facility Location Board. The Howes Caves and Albany plans could be game-changers for Greene and Columbia counties, which were shut out of the process.
Midnight Wednesday was the deadline to apply for casino approval and submit the application fee to the New York State Gaming Commission. A list of the applicants is expected to be released today, but local officials are not expecting to see any Greene County projects on that list, despite expressing interest after casino gaming was legalized in New York by a referendum last November.
