Lake George invasive species inspections start in May

Rick Karlin, Capitol bureau

This has been in the works for a while and in May, boaters entering Lake George will find six inspection stations set up to guard against invasive species like Eurasian milfoil or water chestnuts that can threaten the health of the aquatic environment there.

Training for the inspectors will be starting next week thanks to a grant:

The FUND for Lake George is providing a grant of $10,000 to the Lake George Park Commission for training approximately 50 boat inspection technicians. The four-day training commences on Monday, April 28th, and includes a comprehensive curriculum covering all aspects of inspection and decontamination of trailered boats. Inspection and decontamination is central to the Park Commission’s Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Program set to begin on May 15th.
