Three development groups announced this week they have submitted the $1 million application fee requested by the state casino siting board for a destination gaming resort license.
Traditions at the Glen, Empire Resorts and NeveleR LLC will be vying for licenses in the Southern Tier and Catskill regions respectively. The $1 million fee is nonrefundable and the state Gaming Commission has said the money will be used for reviewing applications and background checks on the applicants.

ALBANY | Caesars Entertainment entered the competition to open a casino in upstate New York on Tuesday with a proposal to build a $750 million complex 50 miles north of New York City.
The complex would include a casino, a hotel and a meeting space and would be located in Woodbury, in Orange County. The Las Vegas-based Caesars, which operates 52 casinos around the world, has submitted a $1 million casino license application fee to state gambling regulators, Caesars spokesman Gary Thompson said Tuesday.

ALBANY Proposals for casinos in upstate New York faced their first significant hurdle Wednesday, the deadline for casino contenders to submit a required $1 million application fee.
Several developers and casino operators involved in the projects including a developer aiming to build a casino in Seneca County told The Associated Press that they submitted the hefty fee because theyre confident their proposal will win out when a state gambling panel awards licenses for up to four casinos authorized in the Catskills, the Albany-Saratoga region and the Southern Tier.
Were all in, said Bill Walsh, of Traditions at the Glen resort and conference center in Johnson City. Walsh and his family are proposing a $150 million casino, which Walsh said would create local jobs and help revitalize the Southern Tier.

There aint no place like a hole in the ground
for a potential Capital Region casino, or so goes the case made by Howe Caves, which is ponying up the required $1 million to the state Gaming Commission to stay in the hunt.
The caverns owners dont yet have a casino operator backing their play, though that isnt required at this phase in the application process. Polished applications, with specs to be laid out later this month, are due by the end of June.
