Mayor de Blasio signs bill protecting interns in the workplace

Interns hoping to land their dream job by working long hours for often little or no pay are now protected against discrimination after Mayor de Blasio signed his third bill into law Tuesday - but some advocates say the bill is too narrow.

Dedunu Suraweera, who describes herself as a "serial intern" before she landed a job in education, said many unpaid workers, like volunteers, would not be covered by the new bill because they may not be considered interns by the bill's definition.
