Cuomo taps Astorino rival for elections board

By DAVID KLEPPER, AP

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has picked a former rival of his Republican opponent to serve on New York's Board of Elections, a watchdog group that will play a vital role in the fall elections.

Andrew Spano was the longtime Westchester County executive until he was ousted in 2009 by Republican Rob Astorino, the current county executive who is now challenging Cuomo in this fall's gubernatorial election.

Cuomo announced the appointment Monday, saying Spano would "uphold New York state's commitment to fair and responsible elections."

Most pols have *some* ideas that are more or less "original". Or that they care about in some sort of ideological way. Or as the solution to some kind of issue or problem that impacts people besides THEMSELVES, in a general way.
When Cuomo does talk about an issue... he adopts canned, scripted positions that other people have created. He takes a position... and then he parrots what others have said or written on it previously. His charter school advocacy, for example, ... and school reform positions in general...are thought-free reiterations of what people like Rahm Emanuel, and Arne Duncan have said or written ( which, of course are usually themselves reiterations of what the "reform" industry -- Gates, Walmart, ALEC and the rest --- have written FOR them).

In other words , there is a dangerous... I'd venture to say pathological.... disconnect between Cuomo's lack of interest and originality in real issues when you look at that next to the energy and time AND CREATIVITY , it must take to plot these intricate Machiavellian political maneuverings.... as in OP.

Some folks may find that entertaining. I think it's really dangerous.
