Mayoral Candidates Clash Continuously at Latino Debate

By Ross Barkan

It appears the gloves are finally off.

At a forum in the Bronx on Wednesday, Sal Albanese accused Public Advocate Bill de Blasio of fibbing, disputing his assertion that a garbage transfer station in Red Hook was actually within “walking distance” of Mr. de Blasio’s Park Slope home. And in a rare moment in the endless parade of forums, Mr. de Blasio, actually shot back.

“Sal, Sal, I have long tolerated your reconfigurations of the truth and I actually can walk easily from my house at 11th Street and 6th Avenue to the Hamilton Avenue station,” Mr. de Blasio sharply told his lesser-known rival and fellow Brooklynite at the contentious forum. “I guarantee it Sal, I’ll come walk with you one day.”

For Mr. de Blasio, it represented what may be a turning point for himself and his Democratic rivals in the increasingly tight primary: they are becoming more willing to go on the attack against each other in person.

1. I seriously doubt De Blasio has ever made that walk, nor would he.

There is also water in the way, so it is even longer, as you cannot walk straight through it.

3. The Gowanus Bay is there. It's silly of him to say it, and will be a silly publicity stunt

That is something you expect in small state somewhere.

Hope he hasn't been drinking too many 48 ounce sodas lately when he will have to actually prove he can walk it,
but that doesn't mean he ever had.

It really is silly to say they are close.

The bus ride btw takes 25 minutes, I looked it up.

It is a hike and I would not do it. Sal was my councilman when I was a kid and liked him till he endorsed Marty Golden for state senate in 2002. We lost our democratic state senator that year and was stuck with Marty.

I lived in Brooklyn (Midwood) from mid 1980 to 1989. Fresh Meadows Queens prior, and Kew Gardens prior to that.

I was in that area a lot as one of my friends, now deceased lived in Greenpoint, and I drove through there sometimes.

Can't see why someone would do that walk in either direction.
Perhaps bicycle LOL

Business is booming there.

But I agree that walking there is not a good idea. You are likely to get killed from the traffic.

7. There are a few parks between the two. Most likely people would walk to their park, and in Red Hook,

Unfortunately they took damage from Sandy being right on the water and all. Most of the products were high up so they survived.
