State teachers union ousts president

Jessica Bakeman

Nearly 3,000 union delegates for New York State United Teachers voted this weekend to oust president Richard Iannuzzi, electing instead of slate of challengers supported by New York City's United Federation of Teachers.

Starting Sunday at the close of the union's convention, Westchester local leader Karen Magee will be the head of the powerful statewide teachers' union, flanked by the group's current executive vice president, Andy Pallotta, who ran with the challengers.

"We're elated," said Magee, who was previously a president in Westchester County. "We're excited. We're ready to start work tomorrow, and we're ready to move forward with the agenda we spoke about for the entire campaign—how to restart the organization, working collaboratively with all our members on a collective voice, and that's where we're ready to head."

Forking over teachers union campaign PAC $$$ to Quid Pro Cuo was the big issue.

Ianuzzi opposed it... sensibly ----- as Cuomo's going to bust a blood vessel trying to impose corporate ed initiatives against the interests and wishes of most teachers and parents .

(Corporate donors have responded in kind.$$$$)

Mulgrew, and his crew are angling to get on the gov's good side. My guess is there is something good in store for that clique.

I'd complain to the Moreland Commission but, you know....
