Mayor de Blasio Makes The Case For DREAM Act During Somos Conference In Albany

GLENN BLAIN
Mayor de Blasio voiced his support for the DREAM Act Saturday morning, calling it a “simple statement of morality” that needs to become law in the state of New York.

De Blasio, during a breakfast appearance at a conference of Latino lawmakers in Albany, urged backers of the bill – which would enable the children of illegal immigrants to receive state tuition assistance – not to give up their fight for the bill, saying “to change societal norms is never easy.” His remarks came just days after the legislation fell two votes short of passing in the state Senate.

“It is a simple act of compassion,” de Blasio told members of the Somos El Futuro conference. “It is a simple statement of morality to reach out to your young people, who are so much of our future. We can’t care where they were born. We only care what is born in them.”
