City's gun buyback scheduled; residents can get $25 to $100-Poughkeepsie

Roberto Cruz
Poughkeepsie Journal

The City of Poughkeepsie police and the New York State Attorney General’s Office will hold a Cash for Guns buyback in the City of Poughkeepsie on March 29, city police told the Journal.

Residents can receive $25 to $100 for each gun turned over to police at the City of Poughkeepsie Public Safety Center located at 505 Main St. on March 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guns must be unloaded and placed in a plastic or paper bag or box. Guns must be transported inside the trunks of vehicles, police said.

City police Capt. Steven W. Minard said the goal of the program is to decrease the number of firearms accessible to members of the public who chose to commit a violent crime.
