Nurse critically injured in assault at Brooklyn hospital

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A 70 year old nurse working at Brookdale Medical Center in Brownsville, Brooklyn is in critical condition after police say she was assaulted by a patient.

The assault took place at about 4:25 Friday afternoon in Room 538 of the hospital.

Police say the woman was knocked to the ground unconscious, and was beaten while on the floor.

After hospital staff rushed into the room, the suspect locked himself in a bathroom.
