Eyewitness News
NEW YORK (WABC) -- The polar vortex that gripped much of the country has moved on, but another round of frigid air is expected to arrive this week across the northern U.S., from the Dakotas eastward to New England. And this time, we've got some snow on the way too.
A winter storm watch is in effect for much of the New York area through late Wednesday morning, with 3 to 6 inches possible Tuesday into Wednesday.
It will be cold, but not the life-threatening cold of early January when subzero temperatures enveloped much of the country and contributed to at least a dozen deaths.
The arctic front arrives in the New York area overnight Tuesday, when temperatures are expected to dip to a high of 24, and then a high of just 18 on Wednesday.

(60,339 posts)Significant snowfalls are forecast for parts of every zone. Over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, we are red-flagging the first ten days of February for possible heavy winter weather. More importantly, on February 2, Super Bowl XLVIII will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jerseys Meadowlandsthe very first time a Super Bowl will be played outdoors in a typically cold weather environment. We are forecasting stormy weather for this, the biggest of sporting venues. But even if we are off by a day or two with the timing of copious wind, rain, and snow, we wish to stress that this particular part of the winter season will be particularly volatile and especially turbulent.
And mid-March could bring a wave of storminess stretching almost from coast to coast, bringing a wide variety of precipitation types as well as strong and gusty winds.

(22,845 posts)California and nearby states are experiencing a severe drought, which doesn't sound like "near-normal precipitation" to me.
So far, western WA is dry, but not chilly

(26,281 posts)That weather hit just a week after our ice storm that knocked out power for 6 days. Thankfully, this storm should pass well to our south.
I hope your outcome is MUCH less accumulation!

(14,337 posts)to see us in Florida. She is also 6 months pregnant. Not a good situation. When she booked her flight, I told her it might not be a good idea in January and being that far along in her pregnancy.
This really has me worried.
