Man Fatally Stabbed On Chelsea Street
Police are searching for the person who stabbed a man to death in Manhattan early this morning. Investigators say Jonathan Fonseca, 28, was stabbed in the stomach shortly before 2 a.m. on Eighth Avenue between 26th and 27th streets in Chelsea.
They also say Fonseca had a long rap sheet. A cab driver near the scene says he was sleeping in his parked cab when someone asked him to call for help.
"I was sleeping - somebody came knocking on my window. I thought he need a cab so I told him I'm not working. He said no no no I need you to call 911. And he brought him down. So I looked down and I saw someone bleeding from his neck - blood on his hands. So I call 911 right away," said the driver. Fonseca was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
