BY KEN LOVETT
Assembly Democrats may agree with some of the ethics reform Gov. Cuomo and members of his anti-corruption commission are pushing, but he says that doesn't give the panel the right to try and use its investigation to presure the Legislature into a deal.
Silver this morning sent an email to his members telling them why the Assembly and Senate were set to file legal papers today seeking to quash subpoenas issued by the commission demanding more detailed information on lawmaker outside income and clients.
Silver (D-Manhattan) did not mention Cuomo by name but mentioned how it's been said that the commission was formed to investigate the legislature after lawmakers wouldn't go along with ethics reform legislation.
"It is an improper and illegal use of Executive authority for appointees of that branch of government to 'investigate the Legislature' merely because the Commissioners would like to compel passage of proposed legislation.
