Heavy rains lead to flooding across metro New York

Cars got stuck and employees sloshed to work as heavy downpours caused flooding throughout the New York metro area on Wednesday.

A flash flood warning was in effect until 9:15 a.m., and such floods were reported in Northeastern New Jersey and Brooklyn, Mike Layer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said

About 3 inches of rain fell on Central Park, and showers soaked parts of Brooklyn. Near the Gowanus Canal in the Cobble Hill neighborhood, motorists were stranded in flooding with water that was up to 2 feet deep. Water seeped into the subway stations in both Manhattan and Brooklyn, prompting some to keep their umbrellas open indoors.
