Bone marrow drive for 9/11 hero

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A bone marrow drive will be held to support a 9/11 hero will be held Tuesday and Wednesday. Retired NYPD Officer Stephen Bonano has a rare form of blood cancer that may be related to his work at Ground Zero. The 50-year-old is now the head of security at the Barclays Center.

A drive over the next two days in Downtown Brooklyn will look for a bone marrow match.

All it takes to register as a potential life saver for Steven and others fighting blood cancer is a quick swab of your cheeks. If you become a match, you get a chance to donate cells, save a life and feel like a hero.

No reservation or appointment is required; simply stop in to 345 Jay Street when it is convenient during the hours of the drive from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on May 7th and 8th. The drive is being held by Forest City Ratner Companies with DKMS (DeleteBloodCancer.org), the world's largest Bone marrow donor organization in the world.
