Yikes! That doesn't sound like a promising turnout... Rhiannon12866 Oct 2013 #3
I would expect about 150,000-300,000 votes. Horrible turnout. hrmjustin Oct 2013 #4
Most people probably vote on their way home from work. Rhiannon12866 Oct 2013 #7
I was right. Out of 3 million dems in this city 185,000 voted. hrmjustin Oct 2013 #5
Wow. Not surprising, but wow. Rhiannon12866 Oct 2013 #6

In 2006 Hillary won Upstate. She won most counties in the state. hrmjustin Oct 2013 #55
I knew it was a landslide, probably everybody except for my mother and brother... Rhiannon12866 Oct 2013 #56
I remember Spitzer only lost 4 or 5 counties that year. hrmjustin Oct 2013 #57
I certainly voted for him, had signs for both him and Hillary in the yard... Rhiannon12866 Oct 2013 #58

I always vote, too, always have, but so many just don't bother, even in a presidential election. I remember when I was first working, I stopped to vote on my way to work and I was excited about it. So when I walked into work, I said to whoever was listening, "Did everybody vote yet?" And I was met with blank stares.

Of all the ugliness, the TV ads and the mailings. One 90-something-year-old lady took me to her trash can to show me the amount of paper she'd thrown away. But she'd already voted absentee. There is no excuse for not voting in a case like this, since no one can say they weren't aware of it...

And it's certainly got to be a lot more competitive. Up here, a lot of the local offices are decided in the Republican primaries. *sigh*

However, a Democrat came to the door over the weekend, is running for County Supervisor. I'm crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath.

Since the majority of the population is there. Up here in the hinterlands, Republicans greatly outnumber Democrats. I can't see how that can be, since the party is no longer that of Lincoln - or Eisenhower. But most people aren't paying attention.

Kirsten Gillibrand ran again that time, too, and she always won in a landslide. But after one term, a Republican won again. Guess I told you that I worked on all of his (two) campaigns. *sigh* But I'm wondering if this insane Republican behavior is going to change some minds. Even those who normally don't pay attention are going to notice if they're affected by this government shutdown. I'm hoping, anyway...

I bring up politics all the time, just can't help it...

And what I heard from Martin Bashir this afternoon was that since NIH is shut down, they've postponed clinical trials of new cancer medications for children. But that is really bad...

I just can't keep my feelings to myself, mainly since Bush* made such a horrific mess. When I was making GOTV calls for my congressman, I was pleased to find a couple of second cousins on my list of registered Democrats to call. My grandfather was Irish, and a Democrat, but he married my Republican grandmother and he died quite young, so she raised a family of Republicans. Though I have to say that my Dad was open minded. My mother actually liked Barack Obama until she learned he was a Democrat...

They can't be that stupid to think they can change the law. A lot of them credit Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy with the idea and they already couldn't stand that. But, as usual, they have no memory of history. Nixon was the one who came up with the idea, but it never went anywhere because of Watergate. Today, even Nixon would be considered "too liberal..."
