Gov. Cuomo proposes $34 million expansion of airport north of New York City
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing a $34 million modernization and expansion of Stewart Airport, north of New York City, to accommodate more international flights.
The Democrat said on Saturday that he wants the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to approve $27 million in public funds, with the rest coming from private investors.
Cuomo says the new, state-of-the-art facility in Newburgh could be renamed New York International at Stewart Field. The airport started offering trans-Atlantic flights last summer, with service to Belfast, Northern Ireland, Dublin and Shannon in Ireland and Edinburgh, Scotland.
A private investment of $7 million would cover installation of a solar system producing electricity for the main terminal.

I live 5 minutes from this airport. I'm glad they bringing back the "Stewart Field" into the name. Its was a WWII air field that expand to train West Point cadets & others flight & advance flight training. Stewart has one of the longest runways on the east coast & room to expand. Home to the NY Air Guard & Marine Refueling Wing.
