Tens of thousands of nostalgia loving riders took advantage of MTA New York City Transit’s Nostalgia Train trips this year, swarming platforms between Queens Plaza and 2nd Avenue, waiting to board a time machine for the price of a MetroCard. The four-weekend Nostalgia Train runs ended with record crowds being carried aboard the vintage IND subway train dubbed the “Shoppers Special.”

On the final day of the holiday operation, more than 1,000 people boarded at 2nd Avenue at the start of each trip. Runs from the Queens Plaza were even more popular. The vintage train attracted capacity crowds whenever it went out. In fact, some of those unable to board, rode regular train service to either 2nd Avenue or Queens Plaza just to make sure they had a chance to get on.
