N.Y.’s Obamacare enrollment tops 2.1 million
Enrollment in health insurance plans through the state’s Obamacare website, NY State of Health, more than doubled by the end of its second open enrollment season, compared to the previous year, state health officials announced Wednesday.
More than 2.1 million New Yorkers had gotten insurance through the exchange as of Feb. 28. The bulk of enrollees, 1.6 million of them, qualified for fully subsidized plans from Medicaid.
Nearly 90 percent reported having no insurance at the time of enrollment, according to state health officials.
About 60 percent of enrollees were under age 35, with 32 percent of those purchasing private plans falling into that age group. Age of enrollees has been considered important, because younger people tend to be healthier...
