Gov. Andrew Cuomo signs bill targeting tiger selfies

Jon Campbell
Sorry, online daters. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill Monday meant to cut down on selfies with tigers.

The state Legislature passed the legislation in June as dating app Tinder saw a boost in users posting photos of themselves posing with tigers and other large cats. The online-dating app displays photos of singles in the area and connects people in a chat room, of sorts, if they both agree.

Under the bill signed by Cuomo, zoos, circuses and carnivals would be breaking the law if people are allowed to get close enough to make contact with large cats—such as lions, leopards and tigers—without a barrier in between.
