Two missing, four injured after boat crash into TZB construction barge

PIERMONT – Two people were missing as of early Saturday morning and four others were injured and taken to the hospital after a 21-foot powerboat crashed into a construction barge for the new Tappan Zee Bridge in the Hudson River off Piermont. Officials said the crash occurred around 10:40 p.m. about a half mile from the bridge on the Rockland side of the river.

The search was called off before 1:30 a.m. Saturday after rescue workers searched with boats and helicopters for a man and a woman.

Injuries to the rescued boaters ranged from minor to broken bones.

Police, fire, Coast Guard and EMS personnel resume the search for the two missing people today.
