Long Island College Hospital Remains Open As Legal Jousting Continues

Brooklyn's Long Island College Hospital won't be closing on Sunday as planned, but the facility's future remains uncertain.

A state supreme court justice this week upheld a temporary restraining order preventing SUNY Downstate from shutting down the Cobble Hill hospital this weekend, and ordered both sides back to court Wednesday.

The judge decided against holding SUNY Downstate in contempt of the restraining order, even though they took some steps toward closing the facility over the last week.

SUNY Downstate argued that its appeal of the restraining order gave it the right to do so.
