CEO wins raise, $250,000 bonus

James M. Odato

Saratoga Springs

No matter which horse is first across the finish line at Saratoga Race Course, the New York Racing Association's top officer is in the money.

President and CEO Christopher Kay won $559,000 from the NYRA board's compensation committee, the full board of directors was told at a meeting Wednesday.

About a year into his NYRA career, Kay impressed board Chairman David Skorton enough to receive a $250,000 bonus. Plus, he earned a 3 percent raise ($9,000) to his $300,000 annual base pay, said Compensation Committee Chairman Vincent Tese.

Skorton — who did not attend the board meeting — concluded that Kay had met objectives for the boosts, Tese said, and the committee unanimously endorsed the package about a month ago.
