New Yorkers see casinos bringing in thousands of jobs and significant revenue, but are skeptical they will be the revitalizing force promised, a new poll shows.
A Time Warner Cable News/Siena College poll, released last week, shows residents are cautiously ready to move forward with the state's four Las Vegas-style casinos, but don't necessarily buy into the hype that applicants and politicians are selling.
"The general consensus is 'hey let's move ahead, I'm hopeful,'" said Don Levy, director of the Siena College Research Institute. "They're saying 'I'm in favor,' but they're not turning cartwheels."
The poll surveyed 816 people across the three regions of upstate New York to receive casinos. It has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

While there are still a small, sick, group who are addicted to this type of money exchanges, (This was your money? OK, now it is the casino's. That is how we exchange it.) relying on gambling for a region's financial future is a huge mistake.
In Joliet, Illinois, they promised thousands of jobs, side businesses, and thriving economic growth. Instead, it is ever more destitute, no side jobs, few casino jobs, and crime is inching up higher as fewer and fewer jobs exist. Casinos turn out to be job -anti-magnets.
