IBO: Most families who left NYC in 2012 remained in state; wealthy no likelier to flee

CELESTE KATZ

For richer or poorer, it's hard to say goodbye to New York.

When they'd had enough of Gotham, most city dwellers who decided to get out in 2012 pack their bags for the suburbs or points further north, a new breakdown from the Independent Budget Office released Monday shows.

Rich families were no more likely to call it quits in 2012 than those of more modest means, found the study -- obviously based on data culled before now-Mayor de Blasio began campaigning on a vow of raising taxes on high earners to expand pre-kindergarten programming.

In fact, 2,700 such wealthy families cut out in 2008, compared to the 2,200 who took off in 2012.
