Two officers reassigned after man dies in police custody

Azi Paybarah

Two NYPD officers were placed on desk duty after an incident in Staten Island Thursday night in which a man in police custody died after being placed in a chokehold.

At a press conference Friday Mayor Bill de Blasio said he found it “very troubling” to watch a video that captured the incident, during which 43-year-old Eric Garner can be heard repeatedly saying, "I can't breathe" as officers held him down.

Police commissioner William Bratton said at the press conference that chokeholds are banned by the NYPD and other police departments around the country “because of concerns of potential death arising from it.”

"As defined by the department’s patrol guide, this appears to have been a chokehold,” Bratton said, adding the “final determination” will be made by investigators.

Anyone remember him of the pepper spray?

On the other hand, the perp should have known that selling untaxed cigarettes is a capital crime.
