Zero Emission Battery-Electric Buses Possible in Capital Region - See more at: http://albany.twcnews

Emily DeFeciani

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Imagine, no more fumes from exhaust pipes or excessive noise from a running vehicle. A cleaner, quieter world. That's the goal of Proterra's battery-electric buses.

"This bus behind me is running now and you don't hear anything. You see no tail pipe at all on this bus,” said Dale Hill, the founder of Proterra.

Zero emission and practically silent, but how are they possible?

"Wherever your layover is on the route, attached to a light pole or any free standing pole is a small robotic arm that comes down and makes contact with the roof,” said Hill.

...to adopt clean vehicles, mostly due to air quality standards but these are good all around.

The only challenge is to the grid: electric utility companies are hard pressed to meet peak demand as it is, now were growing that demand and they often left with purchasing dirty energy on the market or firing up fossil fuel natgas plants, which they're rather not have to do.

But it's still better than diesel.
