Greenburgh Town Hall Hosts Testy Meeting On Controversial Gun Range

GREENBURGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Westchester homeowners are taking sides over what to do about a controversial gun range.

The battle moved from the neighborhood to Greenburgh Town Hall on Tuesday.

Gun enthusiasts packed the meeting in defense of their besieged suburban shooting range. Nearby residents have said they want the open-air facility, which is built in an old rock quarry, closed, CBS 2?s Lou Young reported.

“We are not talking about golf balls; we are talking about bullets and bullets can kill,” neighbor Pam Epstein said.

1. I wonder what kind of liability coverage such places are required to carry.

A quarry seems a save place for shooting, but only if there are a lot of safeguards against stray shots leaving the area.

new construction since the 60's. It used to be a pretty huge undeveloped space, but it just isn't any more. It's crowded.

5. Close it down. I've never been to a range but would think indoors are likely most safe.

The local PD has a range outdoors with a sand levee as back up but if a shot went high it could hit a person 1/2 mile away sitting on a boat fishing, or a person working outdoors.

7. Can't believe the article chose to say that the gun enthusiasts were "standing their ground."

That's in pretty bad taste.

we have 2, one 35 mins away, the other 50 mins. 2 indoor 100 yd. Ranges, and 2 more outdoor facilities trying to happen. Need another within 20 mins. Getting too crowded what with the volume of CCW classes, and the feminist contingent.
