Thousands Of City Triathlon Competitors Brave Sweltering Heat

More than 3,000 athletes ran, swam and pedaled their way along the West Side of Manhattan Sunday, for the 13th annual Aquaphor New York City triathlon.

The race is the only Olympic-distance triathlon in the five boroughs.

Participants swam almost a mile in the Hudson River and biked nearly 25 miles on the West Side Highway, before running over six miles to the finish in Central Park.

They said the race was a challenge, especially in the hot weather.
