NY Judge: Apple Conspired To Raise E-Book Prices

A federal judge on Wednesday ruled Apple conspired with book publishers to raise e-book prices when the it entered the market in 2010.

Manhattan Judge Denise Cote says the evidence in the case left no doubt Apple broke anti-trust laws.

She says Apple knew no publisher could risk acting alone against Amazon.com's $9.99 price for the most popular e-books, so the company, "created a mechanism and environment that enabled them to act together in a matter of weeks to eliminate all retail price competition for their e-books."

The government previously reached settlements with five publishers.
