Senate Dems make paid family leave an end-of-session priority

By Seamus Lyman

Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins was joined by colleagues, business leaders, and labor representatives to urge her fellow senators to pass the Paid Family Leave Insurance Bill.

If enacted into law, the bill (S.04742-b) would provide employees with up to 12 weeks of partial wages when they take time off from work to care for family members such as an infant or seriously ill family member.

New York already has the Temporary Disability Insurance program which currently provides up to $170 a week to workers who have suffered non-work related short-term disability.
