Chirlane McCray honors Anita Hill for stance against sexual harassment

First lady Chirlane McCray hailed anti-sexual harassment pioneer Anita Hill at a Brooklyn awards ceremony Thursday night.

Hill, who famously lodged sexual harassment allegations against then Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas and testified against him before the Senate, was presented with the Sackler Center First Award at the Brooklyn Museum.

McCray recalled the 1991 hearings as a turning point for women’s rights. “To say that I was riveted was an understatement,” she said. “I watched with increasing awe as Ms. Hill with astounding poise recounted what so many women were going through every single day.

That and the North hearings were really my introduction into how congress works.
