ALBANYFormer Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno said he wants taxpayers to cover an estimated $4 million in legal bills he racked up defending himself from six years of federal prosecution.
A jury found Bruno not guilty on Friday.
The Public Officers Law says that any state officer is entitled to reimbursement for reasonable legal fees related to a charge or suit arising from someone's official actions. Bruno cited the case of Manfred Ohrenstein, a former Senate Democratic leader, who won reimbursement in the 1990s for a case that did not go to trial.
