NYS Dems call GOP "schizophrenic" on campaign finance; GOP charges hypocrisy

Too early to say if the battle for state controller gets as ugly as last year's fight to become its city counterpart, but the major political parties are already giving it a run for the (ahem) money.

State Democratic Party spokesman Peter Kauffmann popped off on just-announced GOP controller hopeful Robert Antonacci in a Thursday morning email, trying to set up a Republican civil war theme early in the game.

He let Antonacci, the Onondaga County controller, have it for saying he'd opt into the public financing program -- in contrast to Republican gubernatorial contender Rob Astorino, who opposes such programs.
