Alig was released from the Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy, N.Y., on Monday.

I remember this case. I was 18 at the time and I saw him in the clubs, and I remember the publicity this got at the time.

(15,189 posts)Alig admitted that he and co-defendant Robert Freeze Riggs killed Melendez, cut the body up and dumped the parts in the Hudson River. Riggs also pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was released in 2010.
This was not some accident, or drugs took over in the heat of the moment. I guess since they may have killed another druggie, his death wasn't too important. 17 years, and still young enough to kill again. I bet they both kill again. Oh and look, he's happy to be free. This piece of shit should never have been let out.
I hope the victims family sues the shit out of him. Let him choke on his burrito of freedom.
"According to his Twitter bio, he is finishing a book he wrote in prison titled Aligula.

(36,281 posts)Jesus. He has been punished. Why can't "tough on crime" folks ever stop demanding greater pain and humiliation? How will we ever know whether he has rehabilitated himself without giving him a chance to demonstrate it? How will HE ever know?
I'm betting you've never met this guy, that you know nothing about him except that he committed a terrible crime nearly two decades ago. Yet you wish him nothing but ill, apparently forever.
Let me counter that by wishing him every success in his second chance, and hopes that he lives a satisfying and fulfilling life whose second half accomplishes much to be proud of.
