Mark-Viverito: UFT contract will "set the tone" for deals with other unions

City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said a contract deal with the United Federation of Teachers, expected to be announced Thursday, will “set the tone” for future deals with other city unions.

The deal is expected to include significant retroactive pay - more than $3 billion in raises going back to 2009 - with 4% raises for 2009 and 2010 and smaller bumps in later years.

Mark-Viverito suggested it would be a model for contracts with other city unions - all 150-plus of which are now expired.
