Squeeze play for casinos

As prospective casino developers plan their next move in the competition for up to four gaming licenses upstate, few can claim their sites are shovel-ready for the massive projects.
Site preparation, environmental mandates and opening date rules were concerns of several people at the mandated bidders' conference held Wednesday by the siting board of the state Gaming Commission.
Many development teams are far down the road to finishing required development evaluation studies that meet the provisions of the State Environmental Quality Review Act.
That's the case with operators of the Howe Caverns property in Schoharie County, and those advancing the Thruway Exit 27 site in Montgomery County.

After a New York Post story on Thursday detailed an incident involving Nevele casino planner Michael Treanor, he was out as the face of the project.
His team thinks he may be the first major casualty in what could be a bloody competition for a casino license in the Hudson Valley/Castskills region. Treanor had been one of the most vocal industry officials warning that if Orange County developers get a casino license, the Catskills projects, particularly the Ulster County Nevele project, would be in big trouble.

ALBANY - Developers of a proposed casino in Montgomery County expect to have their plans ready by the end of June, they said Wednesday.
Representatives of Florida Acquisition Corp., which wants to build a casino on land in the town of Florida and city of Amsterdam, were among the casino developers at a meeting Wednesday in Albany with the New York State Gaming Commission.
Development groups looking to build a casino in upstate New York gathered for the mandatory meeting where state gambling regulators heard questions about the selection process.
