Assemblyman Weprin introduces bill to protect carriage horse industry

Another state lawmaker has joined the battle to save New York’s iconic carriage horses.

Assemblyman David Weprin (D-Queens) has introduced a bill that would prohibit the city from issuing fewer carriage horse licenses than it did in 2013. It would also prevent the city from altering the application process or raising the fee.

“I am trying to protect the industry,” Weprin told the Daily News Tuesday. “ I have personal knowledge of many of the horse owners. My experience is that they treat their horses as members of their families.”
